Open Jaw is an industry term used when a traveller wants to leave from one airport and return to another, or travel to an airport and return from another. this wireframes shows how the form will behave when a user selects Multi-City
The Problem: Our competitors had multi-destination search on their website, and we felt we were loosing out to this. Our search engine needed to be modified to allow for this functionality and I produced hight level wireframes to investigate functionality .
The Solution: The company wanted to produce something quickly and decided to start with an open ‘jaw solution’ as this is an industry term we had to decide on a name which would work for this type of search.
The Outcome: This never went live due to the Kayak purchase of Cheapflights and the idea was never implemented). However the problem we still had was the naming convention, the tests favoured Muti-City however the expectation was for a true multi destination search and not ‘open jaw’

When a user performs a search we return results from our partners.
The Problem: When a user performs a search on a popular route we can return 30 or 40 results with the same price flying out around the same time.
The Solution: To save the user from scrolling through this selection of inappropriate flights, went down the route of packaging then up into a concertina making it easier to scroll past them if they wanted.
The Outcome: This never went live due to the Kayak purchase of Cheapflights and the idea was never implemented). However tests were favourable and I proposed a few minor alterations. before the project was put on hold.

Reducing cognitive load is important when trying to get user engagement. To increase user click though I designed a slimline form which has the appearance of less fields and therefore a simpler form to engage with.
The Problem: Encouraging more people to search, an additional problem was to encourage the user to click on more results as our business model was based on CPC (Cost per Click)
The Solution: was to create a slimline form which made it simpler for the user to fill out. The search button took the user through to a new styled results page which had a lower cognitive load. Additionally I included a compare functionality which encouraged the user to click on more results with in turn would increase revenue.
The Outcome: Once again his never went live due to the Kayak purchase of Cheapflights and the idea was never implemented).
I have been involved in setting up and implementing A/B testing of the Cheapflights sites., and have aided in increasing the revenue of the sites over the last 8 months for the Cheapflights (Meta sites) and the US site by over $3 million.
