I was employed by Hive Home to develop wireframes, prototype solutions and user test them for functionality and understanding. We are in the process of redesigning the site which requires constant research, testing and re-testing.
The Problem: Product pages are confusing and users do not find the information they need to make an informed decision to purchase what is a considered purchase.
The Solution: The company wanted to produce something quickly and decided to start with a template for a new product ‘Hive View’. Instead of hiding simple pack shots and hidden information we created a clearer structure and defined areas for the section.
The Outcome: We tested the new product pages and found that they performed better than the original. The user could find information when asked, They could customise their product/selection easily and had no difficulty in purchasing the product. (We have since performed additional testing (including A/B testing) and after some minor alterations we will be rolling the new product design pages out across the site)
The Problem: The product pages can be confusing and during the purchase process, users have to configure products based on their personal requirements. This can range from selecting an installation by a British Gas engineer to selecting which light fitting you have, making the correct selections can confuse potential purchasers.
The Solution: I developed 2 alternative solutions to test. Both solutions progressively disclosed more choices as the user completed a section. I tried to design a solution which had longevity and would allow for additional products coming onto the market without significantly changing the design.
The Outcome: The outcome of the tests were not as I would have liked as both solutions displayed faults, although younger respondents had little of no difficulty in either of the solutions proposed older respondents were confused and did not understand the functionality of what it was doing. This eventually led to making the decision of abandoning this solution ( I am currently in the middle of testing an alternative, which is looking positive and will be uploaded when the pages have gone live).
