IDBS

I was employed by IDBS as a platform designer. The company develops a system aimed predominantly at the biopharma market. The platform is designed to log and keep track of experiments and of the equipment used.

My role in any other company would be a Senior/ Lead UX designer, my duties include aiding in the development of the platform, to simplify the complex data displayed into easily understood and usable information.  The role includes performing VoC (Voice of Customer) research to aid with roadmap decisions and presenting the findings to disseminate the information, which allows me to develop user flows, wireframes, and prototype designs. I also run user testing and re-iterate workflows to create and optimise the final design.  I mentor our trainee UX designer and I run the UX guild which is tasked with evangelising UX and its benefits across the company. I have put in place a structure to allow the UX department to work cohesively with the production and development teams.

Original Proposed Structure 7 UX process working with Business

The Problem: We are in the process of moving the platform to the cloud. The current registration of a new user on the desktop client is not easy. When I was first given the project to design the new registration I first needed to benchmark the current process. During the research, I heard comments like ‘if I had not watched the video I would not know how to do this’, and ‘I do not know where to go and the hierarchy of the page is confusing’.

The Solution: Users need to be given a more linea approach and taken through the process, they needed to be given tips, action confirmation, and clean design to enable them to create a new user without the need for videos on how to add a user.

The Outcome: The final version has not been released yet, However; user research/ tests and feedback have been 100% positive. We are now in the middle of additional VoC sessions to research ‘Bulk new user uploads’, ‘Creating Groups’, and ‘Creating Entities’.
